Happy Ending

The year is turning, the evenings are closing in and New Atlas has begun settling into its usual grey habits. Travel agents say late-season bookings are rising as Atlassians trade wet pavements and early sunsets for warm beaches, quiet water and a few days in which absolutely nothing is expected of them.

Short-haul island escapes remain the favourite: palm shade, cold drinks, bright skies and enough distance to make ordinary problems feel temporarily someone else’s. For tired workers, the appeal is obvious. Sometimes a change of weather is all it takes to imagine a different ending.
